In short, here’s what’s going to happen. I’m going to be playing the best of the music I wrote about on this here blog (and even the music I haven’t had the chance to talk about), along with your favorite tunes. I’m also thinking about some premieres, some tunes that I’m sure you haven’t heard of yet and that I haven’t written anything about here. And, last but not least, and certainly the best part for you, I’m going to post the entire playlist (yeah, that’s right! the whole shebang) from next Thursday’s party as a series of mixtapes for you to download throughout next Friday.

I’m thinking good music + friends + drinks + dancing = lot’s of fun. So you’d better be there!

Oh, and for those of you who can’t manage to get there or are just too lazy (you couch potatoes!) to get out of your comfy sofas, I’ll also be live blogging for the first time. I’ll let you know how things are going, what tunes I’m playing, the crazy requests that some people make, maybe even upload some pictures. It should be fun

Finally, the weekend is here and what better way to celebrate the end of a hectic week than by listening to a really catchy and fun tune.

Sweden’s Love Is All provides exactly that in their “Bigger Bolder” track, which is like mixing X-Ray Spex with some fuzzy girlie pop. Oh what a bless it is when, after a long and hard fucking day at work, your ears are blessed with such beautiful sounds as those coming from Spindrift‘s “Speak To The Wind“. This is western spaghetti meets psych-rock at a totally new level. This is truly an epic song that I’d definitely want to listen to if I ever found myself preparing for a shoot-out in a ghost town out in the wild west.

Even though I hate to admit it or use it as an excuse, I have to say I can get pretty fucked or hyped by the weather outside…

Oh, fuck it, who am I kidding? I’ve just been lazy and, yes, I’m not really in the mood for writing much, nor am I swamped with inspiration lately. So, I’m just gonna say this: these two tracks have got shit in common, but if you listen to them both on a day like this, it kinda makes sense for them both to coexist in your playlist.

Just like last year, I spent the last couple of weeks sitting in front of my computer, reading what people blog about their SXSW experiences, and, just like last year, I’m waiting for those yet unknown but soon to become huge bands to pop up in their reviews. So far I have to admit I was rather unimpressed. That’s until I ran into The Decibel Tolls’ review of what I can only describe as being a fucking treasure.

It would be rather pointless to start a review of the bands this guy has already seen and talked about and, most important of all, DISCOVERED! I just wanna say two things:

1. Zorch – Zut Alore! This is the best fucking track I’ve heard since Fuck Buttons’ Bright Tomorrow.

2. Carsick Cars – You Can Listen, You Can Talk. Just plain fucking good man.

Go ahead, read the review, see some videos and thank the man (and moi for purging the internet for good music) for the audible enjoyment brought to you today. Enjoy!

I can’t belive I’ve been searching for a proper song to talk to you about for no less than two days now. And all this time I’ve been ignoring this track, which, for an unexplained reason, has escaped my hungry ears so far.

But not this time. This time we’re going to WOR. Or something. No really, I’ve heard a couple of tracks from Django Django early last year, but despite their music being a somehow pop version of Devo and The Beta Band put together, I just didn’t fall for the music. This track I’m digging though. And since I’m not feeling particularly inspired today, I’ll just spare you of my ranting and ship you off straight to WOR.

Friday has passed and I haven’t been able to pull myself together for the weekly mixtape due to a total lack of inspiration. However, inspiration did come to me by way of friends and the movie Tropic Thunder, which despite being a B (or maybe C) rated comedy, does have a pretty cool soundtrack.

The result? A ‘Nam inspired soundtrack that’s filled with energy and some of the best guitar riffs in history. This mixtape is something I’ve been meaning to do for a long time, so I hope you enjoy it.

Hurricane Sven

Wish this would be a proper post in which I could tell you how this band sounds or where they come from, or what their album is called, or pretty much anything I’d say about the songs and bands I’m posting.

Well, I can’t. I couldn’t find absolutely anything else about Hurricane Sven other that he’s a up and coming internet phenomenon.

Oh, and one more thing. They have this 38 seconds hilarious track called Stupid Bastard Girl. Hearing it I was instantly taken back to The Moby Dicks‘ “Fuck Off Baby“. Other than that you’ll just have to keep an eye out for Hurricane Sven.

aRTIST oF tHE yEAR

I stumbled upon this great track from Canadian band aRTIST oF tHE yEAR while watching a short movie on Vimeo and it just made me smile and make my feet dance under my desk. The track I’m talking about is called Yeah!!! and comes of aOTY‘s latest effort, “Velour Brigade”, which you can get here.

If “Yeah!!!” were a tea, then it would come as a strong infusion of electro funk with a lasting after taste of lo-fi psychedelia to it. Forget green tea, forget coffee, forget multivitamins, it’s time to have some YEAH!!!.

I’ve always felt that Of Montreal‘s “The Past is A Grotesque Animal” is both a love and a hate song at the same time, it just depends on which side of the fence you find yourself when listening to it. And I was reminded of just that after seeing Spike Jonze‘s short film, “I’m Here“, a metaphor for love under seemingly impossible circumstances.

If you haven’t seen this short, then please do. You’ll find the full feature here. Except for being really good, the movie also has an outstanding soundtrack, including the likes of Sleigh Bells, early Animal Collective (Did You See The Words) and even a few tracks written by Nick Zinner of Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Aska Matsumiya, which in all honesty I’ve never heard of before, but who’s presumably a member of The Sads and a former member of Your Enemy Friends.
